Purposeful Thinking

About

Kathryn Hodges — Purposeful Thinking Coaching

Who I am

I'm Kathryn Hodges, and I purposefully think with leaders, practitioners, and teams working in health, social care, and the intersecting services, supporting them to navigate challenges and approach their work thoughtfully and with confidence.

How I work

For me, it’s important not to waste time and to do things well, with focus and intent. Time often feels limited, shaped by multiple demands, and there is always more to do.

Through Purposeful Thinking, my priority is to help people move through paralysis, unpick what matters most, and take action with clarity and renewed focus, while also creating time to pause, recuperate, and rebuild where needed.

Why I do it

My work is rooted in a long-standing commitment to supporting communities and the people who work alongside them. Through my research, including a PhD exploring how women seek and receive support, I have developed a deep understanding of the decisions, challenges, and opportunities involved in helping others, and how services and policy can enable or constrain positive outcomes.

Through coaching, action learning, and reflective practice approaches I create spaces where practitioners and leaders can pause, reflect, and make sense of complexity. Creating opportunities to turn learning into practical action, working collaboratively to find thoughtful responses and ultimately improve outcomes for the people and communities you support.

Background

I have over 25 years of experience across health, social care, and the wider support system as a social worker, leader, educator, and researcher. This has given me a deep understanding of the realities, opportunities, and challenges faced by practitioners and leaders.

I’ve worked across service delivery, organisational leadership, and research, alongside pro-bono roles supporting boards and sector projects. This breadth of experience shapes a practical, evidence-informed approach to supporting individuals, teams, and organisations.
